Ovarian Cancer Awareness Coalition

Massachusetts has a strong tradition of citizen activism. In the case of ovarian cancer, personal, clinical or family experience with the disease has united the membership of organizations in an effort to raise awareness of ovarian cancer, fund health care research and educate lay and professional audiences about the deadliest of gynecological cancers. These organizations are:

The Dana-Faber/Brigham & Women's Cancer Center: The newest addition to the campaign, joining in 2007, Dana-Farber/Brigham & Women's Cancer Center is a collaboration of one of the world's leading cancer institutes with one of the world's leading hospitals. The Cancer Center offers the focus of a leading cancer center and the resources of a major hospital to provide comprehensive, integrated care for adults with cancer. Patients have access to the most advanced and innovative treatments, including hundreds of new clinical trials each year, as well as many programs designed to provide support for patients with cancer and their families.

The M. Patricia Cronin Foundation to Fight Ovarian Cancer: This foundation shares the mission to promote awareness and prevention of ovarian cancer, with an emphasis on supporting women in treatment, their friends and families. M. Patricia Cronin was diagnosed with Stage III ovarian cancer in 1996 and entered a new treatment protocol at Dana Farber; she lost her battle with ovarian cancer in August of 2000. At the time, there was only one support group in the region for women with ovarian cancer, so she created her own network. Cronin's family and friends created the Foundation to increase awareness of ovarian cancer, promote research and support women and their families. The Foundation awards grants and recognition awards each year to organizations whose work supports the Foundation's mission.
